MIB

Microtec Research, Inc. (MRI)

A vendor that provides cross-compilers for many microprocessors. They also provide the XRAY source level debugger. The MRI cross-devlopment tools include a C++/ANSI C cross compiler and a cross assembler. The tools are hosted on many platforms includeing SUN SPARC, Hewlett Packard 400 and 700 series, and DEC 5000 workstations.

Precision Machine Timing System

The system that provides the accurate synchronization of the accelerator systems. This is one of the ASD/Technical Systems. (replaces entry for Global Timing beam Sync)

Primary Communications Infrastructure

The backbone conduit infrastructure which interconnects secondary infrastructures to form a single logical laboratory-wide communications conduit system.

pSOSystem

A modular, high-quality performance, real-time operating system designed specificially for embedded microprocessors from Integrated Systems, Inc. pSOSystem is made up of the following components: pSOSystem, pSOS+, pNA+, pREPC+, pROBE+, pHILE+, pRPC+, XRAY+.

pSOS+

A real-time multitasking kernel.

pNA+

Provides network services for pSOSystem. pNA+ allows real-time tasks to communicate with any system supporting TCP/IP protocols.

pREPC+

A re-entrant C run-time library for pSOSystem.

pROBE+

A kernel debugger for pSOSystem. Can be used in conjunction with XRAY+ for source level debugging over a network.

pHILE+

Proivides high-performace file management for pSOSystem. It also provides MS-DOS file format compatibility.

pRPC+

Provides Remote Procedure Calls (RPC) and Network File Systems (NFS) for pSOSystem tasks.

Router

.....

Site Communications Infrastructure

The secondary communications infrastructure system logically interconnects buildings within a specific geographical area (i.e. N15 campus) or the various communications locations within an accelerator (i.e. LEB complex). This design defines all communications components within the specified site but no closer than five (5) feet from the perimeter of any given building.

T1

T1 is a Time Division Multiplexing Standard used throughout the data communications and telephony industry. It is a byte serial interface operating with a 125 micro second time-slot. Within this 125 micro second period, 24 bytes of data + 1 bit for synchronization are transmitted. The bit rate is therefore ((24 * 8)+1) / 0.000125 = 1.544 M bits per second.

T1 is used by the telephone industry to transmit digital telephone calls. Each voice circuit occupies one byte in each 125 micro second time slot. Thus a T1 can carry 24 phone calls.

XRAY+

A source level debugger for real-time systems. XRAY is developed by Microtec Research, Inc. It is then ported to various platforms. XRAY+ is knowledgeable of the pSOSystem real-time environment. It is provided by the Software Componets Group of Integrated Systems, Inc.

XSNMP

A public domain program for monitoring a set of network devices. XSNMP originated from a simple program which used ICMP ECHO (ping) packets to verify if systems were up or down. It still uses that protocol for that purpose, however further capability will contine to be added as time permits using the SNMP protocol. The ping ability will be retained, however SNMP will allow the program eventually to monitor things like network traffic through an interface, figure out the network topology by itself (which it currently does), etc.
