Opening Remarks

The conference opened with welcoming remarks from Dr. Amos Tropper, the director of CBPF and Dr. Thomas Nash, representing Dr. John Peoples, the director of Fermilab, followed by Dr. Eloy Fernandez y Fernandez, the secretary of State for Science and Technology, representing the Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro.

For the first time at a Computing in High Energy Physics conference live two-way videoconferencing with High Energy Physics institutions was attempted. Speaking directly from CERN and from Fermilab, messages of congratulations and wishes for a productive and successful conference were received.
