CHEP '95 Opening Remarks:
Senior D0 Collaborator from Brazil
Arthur Maciel
The now almost fifteen years of Brazilian involvment in High Energy Physics
research at Fermilab stem from the pioneering efforts of a few scientists
on both sides who believed it possible and went out of their ways to make
it happen. We can now look back and appreciate the many benefits - some
not even foreseen - extracted from our participation in three fixed target
experiments and the unveiling of important aspects of charm physics. Having
joined this effort in the last four years, now studying the heavier quarks
(beauty and top), I feel comfortable in saying that those original efforts
payed off handsomely. We can proudly call it a success story.
Very briefly, I would like to convey my warmest congratulations to all of
you who have brought this major conference to its inauguration day, and in
particular, those involved in making this video link possible. With my
apologies to very many of you, I confess I cannot resist saying a few words
in my mother language. - Que esta conferência venha a ser o que ela
efetivamente nasceu para ser; uma indicadora de novos caminhos, um sucesso.
Boa sorte a todos. - Good luck to all, and for those visiting, enjoy Rio.
