Dr. Terris received the B.S. degree in applied physics from
Columbia University in 1979 and the M.S. (1981) and Ph. D. (1983) degrees
in physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
After receiving his doctorate, he was a post-doctoral fellow
at Argonne National Laboratory. In 1985, he joined IBM as a
Research Staff Member at the Almaden Research Center, San Jose, CA.
His current research interests include scanning probe and near-field optical microscopies and their application to high density data storage. Dr. Terris is a member of the American Physical Society.
